Date Squares

Filling

1 cup of water

2 cups pitted dates
1/2tsp salt

Crust

4 cups rolled oats
2 cups flour
1 cup dry sweetener (sucanat)
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp cinnamon
1 cup margarine ( earth Balance buttery sticks) found at Wegmans in the health food department
1/4 cup oil 1/4 cup water

oven at 350

in small sauce pan bring water to a boil and add filling simmer until dates are soft

In a large bowl stir dry ingredients add the margarine and oil if crust is to dry add water.

Press half of the crust mixture in a 9x13 pan. Spread filling over top and then sprinkle the remaining crust mixture on top. Bake for 20 -40 minutes until-browned lightly. Cut into squares before cooled.
