Lorie Bebber and Lisa Kiefer

Lisa Kiefer found home when she began taking yoga classes. A dancer since age 5, she directed that energy toward teaching fitness after college receiving training and certifications in aerobics, kickboxing, indoor cycling and group strength training. It was yoga that changed her mindset about exercise and movement, bringing a sense of peace and self-love to the idea of fitness. Following her bliss, she studied Kripalu yoga under Lorie Pearce-Bebber for three years then decided to become certified to teach. She is now a member of Yoga Alliance and the Kripalu Yoga Teacher’s Association.Lisa Kiefer

Lisa is also a Registered Art Therapist (ATR), with a Master’s degree in Art Therapy. With art, as with yoga, Lisa guides others to a communion with the self. She believes it is from that place that we can heal, grow, and become healthier and happier.

Lisa would like to express gratitude to those teachers and students she has learned so much from, to Ted Kiefer, to the Moongirls, and to Lorie for all of her encouragement. Jai Bghwan

Jackie Clarke has worked as a teacher, consultant, and writer for the past 16 years.  She has written 14 books for teachers and has published a children’s book entitled Moose’s Loose Tooth. She has also written curricular materials that help children develop spiritually.

She remembers taking her first yoga class and realizing how out of touch she was with her own body.  Yoga has helped her forge a new relationship with not only her body, but mind and spirit as well.

Jackie ClarkeShe became interested in yoga for children when Lorie Bebber began teaching it to her own children.  While they enjoyed the experience, Jackie recognized the lifelong benefits of such a practice to her children’s well being.  At the same time, she was collaborating with Julie Daniel to plan and implement a weekly children’s worship service in which yoga and/or other movement type activities were a part.  These experiences led her to further reading and participation in a Yoga Kids training workshop.

Jackie wishes to thank May Memorial Unitarian Universalist Society for allowing yoga to be part of their religious education experience, Julie Daniel for her inspiration and dedication to yoga and children, and a special thanks to Lorie Bebber and Lisa Kiefer who afforded us the opportunity to bring Yoga Kids to their studio.

Julie DanielJulie Daniel has been a practicing speech and language pathologist with young children for 27 years. Born and educated in North Carolina, she moved to Central New York in 1986 where she continued her professional career with children with special needs   at the Main St. Early Education Program in the N. Syracuse School District. She also works with children with communication disorders  through the Special Children's Services of the Onondaga County Health Department.

Julie had been practicing yoga off and on since graduating from college in the 70's. That practice became more focused and disciplined in the last 6 years when she started studying with Lorie Bebber. During that time she began using yoga with her special needs children and noted their improved motor planning skills, attention span and ability to focus. Most importantly however, she noted how much they loved doing yoga! These observations led Julie to research programs for teaching yoga to children. It was in that search that she discovered YogaKids, an international certification program for teaching children. Julie completed the training during 2005-06 and is now a Certified YogaKids Facilitator (CYKF) and YogaKids Trainer (YKT).

Julie wishes to thank her professional colleagues, Mary Vaughn and Renee McCall who have offered encouragement and support in pursuing her dream of teaching yoga to children. She thanks Lorie Bebber and Lisa Kiefer for their model of teaching from the heart and for being open to bringing yoga for children to their center. She thanks Jackie Clarke for her constant inspiration and finally, she wishes to thank her husband Kevin for always being beside her......   "on the mat" and in spirit as he offers constant encouragement in her pursuit of bringing this gift to our youngest "yogis".

Edie Stanton:  As I look at the picture of myself, I see how it clearly speaks of the
inner joy that yoga has contributed to my life.  I wish nothing less for you.  I walked into my first yoga class 15 years ago, was blessed with an inspiring teacher, and was hooked.  My interest in yoga led me to a 3 year practice of ashtanga yoga, and many years of kripalu yoga. My ongoing practice is hatha and kripalu yoga. I received yoga teacher training at the Himalaya Institute in the Pocanos.  Along with traditional asana training, the program placed much emphasis on ayruvada, pranayama, meditation, and living a yoga lifestyle.  During my five week stay, I was immersed in ashram living.  As a result, the teaching and practice of deep relaxation (yoga nidra) and of meditation continues to be a key area I study and offer in my classes.  I have also participated in the practice of meditation at the Zen Center in Syracuse.

My full time job is a school counselor in the Liverpool School District.  I began my teaching career in Liverpool as an elementary teacher and have also worked as a middle school guidance counselor and drug counselor.  I have also led training classes for teachers for the purpose of yoga and brain gym into their classrooms for stress reduction and movement therapy.  I have taught yoga for children, yoga during pregnancy, and have held various workshops utilizing the benefits of yoga.

Teaching yoga during these past 7 years has been very rewarding, and it
is with great joy I join the CNY Yoga Center.

Frank Abbot: Kyta member -Initially I began coming to yoga classes at CNY Yoga to get relief from life's aches and pains as well as for stress relief.  After the first beginner 1 class I felt wonderful. Before the end of that first six week session I ha gotten the benefits I initially wanted and was hooked. Once I stopped taking yoga and began practicing yoga I got so much more than I had expected.

Yoga means union. The union of body, mind, and spirit. What yoga means to me at this time in my practice is health. Spiritual health, mental health, and physical health.

I would like to thank my wife Sandy for her support and encouragement as we begin this new journey. I would like to thank Lisa and Lorie for their inspiration, encouragement, and for allowing me this opportunity to bring my yoga to another level.

I would also like to thank my fellow students for their support and encouragement.

Jai Bhagwan!

Clare Murray Volo- In November of 2000, I went to a Kripalu yoga class taught by Lorie and my life changed forever! I had been heading into a series of dead-ends with relationships, career and choice making. After discovering Kripalu yoga, I was amazed at how much space was available to me. The more I did yoga, the more open I became to creating positive and welcome balance in my life. An amazing transformation continues to take place! One of my favorite quotes is, "put forth your effort with no thought of gain." With this in mind, I now expand my practice both on and off the mat by sharing this wondrous gift with others.

\Yoga inspirations - Martin Luther King, Jr.; Mother Theresa; my loving parents and 7 brothers and sisters; Lorie, Lisa, teachers and students at CNY Yoga; all of my galpals with a special shout out to Amie Shaffer-8 year cancer survivor and living her life!; Priti, Jairaj, the assistants and all of the yogis and yoginis - Kripalu YTT Class of 8/06; last but certainly not last - starting each new day with my truelove, Mike, and our 2 cats, Bud (Abbott) and Lou (Costello), is life's greatest gift to me. Namiste and many blessings!

Tara Hogan- Certified Yoga Instructor, Kripalu, 2006
BFA Illustration and Design, Syracuse University, 1999

I was introduced to yoga by my mother, June, who had been retreating to Ananda Ashram, Monroe, NY, in 1986. I was 9 years old. My mom had spoke of yoga while I
was a child but it was not until I visited the Ashram that I understood it's magic and grace. She continually fed its benefits to me through many years encouraging me to practice. I danced, practiced gymnastics, and made art instead but kept her words
close by.

My journey into yoga began in 1999 when I tried yoga at a gym in CT, my native state. I was not dedicated until 2001 when I moved to Syracuse to be with my long
time love, Mark. I became tired of the gym and when my mom relapsed once again with health problems I sought out meditation and a way to detoxify the mind, body,
and spirit. I began to practice regularly at 2 different places studying vinyasa yoga with Judiann Cesta, owner of East Street Yoga, Skaneatelas, NY. I found home and clarity.

I then fell upon a Sean Corne vinyasa/chakra workshop in NYC and completely found stuck energy in my body that began to dissolve, finally. I was now on my way to embracing the chakra system and layers of historical traumatic cellular memory in my mind and body. While practicing in Syracuse at CNY Yoga with Laurie and Lisa I found Kripalu and its heartfelt wisdom. My practice deepened and aI found a great yoga community.

I studied with Shiva Rea at a weekend teacher intensive in NYC and began to learn more about trance dance, rhythmic vinyasa, and the kramas. I was ready to further pursue my love of yoga and become a more knowledgeable yogi and teacher. From Shiva's training I practiced Ashtanga in NYC for 4 days with Manju Jois, son of Patabois Jois. I finally certified at Kriplau in the summer of 2006.

I further my studies by practicing at CNY Yoga, and retreats at Omega with Gurmukh Kaur Khalsa, Shiva Rea, Sharron Gannon, Sally Kempton, and Sean Corne. I
continually practice at Jivamukti Yoga whenever I am in NYC and Fresh Yoga in New Haven, CT when I visit my family.

My intention is to create a sacred space where all beings are welcome and can move and be at ease. Loka Samasta Sukhino Bhavantu. Om Shanti.

"We shall not cease from exploration
And the end of all our exploring
Will be to arrive where we started
And know the place for the first time."

Tiffany Gallagher - My journey with yoga began a few years after the birth of my son.  As many do, I continued to struggle with my weight and the sense of self I derived from my physical being.  I tried many different fitness avenues, all of which helped for a while, but failed to keep my attention.  I knew nothing about yoga only that a small yoga studio opened in Liverpool.  My husband bought me a gift certificate for Valentine’s Day 2004 and so my journey with CNY Yoga Center and yoga began.

Yoga has changed my life in many ways.  The physical benefits speak for themselves, as I am 40 pounds lighter.  But… the mental and emotional benefits are what have bound me to yoga for life.  My spiritual connection to myself and others has made me a better person.  My understandings of this life and the universe have helped me professionally as well as personally with my human relationships.

I am training with Shiva Rea (www.shivarea.com) en route to completing my 200 hour certification.  Shiva’s creative approach is one I am excited to share with students.  It is clear to me that every person can benefit from yoga in many ways.  I am honored to have the ability to facilitate that.

My energy is fueled by my beloved husband, Stuart, and children, Shamus and Rowan.
